My friend Erin is going to be organizing some postpartum "doula care" for us so I need to figure out what tasks would be most helpful to have friends and family chip in on in our early days of getting to know the baby (laundry, dishes, sweeping, providing a meal, etc). I need to get the short term disability paperwork together for the midwives to fill out. This weekend, Joe and I need to do a few birth-preparation things already! We need to draw a map so the midwives can find our house. The baby's eyelashes and eyebrows have grown in.The baby has his/her eyes open most of the time and can see changes in light.The lungs and digestive tract are nearly complete.Fortunately, s/he isn't kicking at my ribs yet! So just the fact that the foot is there, I feel it like a little electrical current in my skin.

My skin is stretched so thin that all the nerve receptors are highly sensitive. Even when the little foot isn't moving at the top, I can feel it.
Though I haven't been to the midwives since I last wrote, I think the baby is still head down as I feel movement both at the top of my uterus and way down low (think a little foot at the top and a little fist at the bottom). Currently, the baby weighs about 3 1/2 pounds and is nearly 20 inches long (imagine carrying 4 oranges with you in your shirt everywhere you go!). S/he is now starting to gain about half a pound each week. Sleeping on my back is no longer an option as I get sore quickly, so I spend most nights on my left side.īut I don't mean to complain! I'm still very much loving the sensation of having my baby so close. Things that didn't used to tire me out, now leave me panting and guzzling water. My ankles are no longer recognizable as my own except for brief moments when I first wake up in the morning. My belly, which felt small all the way till now, suddenly feels huge. Nearly 31 weeks pregnant now! Things feel really different since I've entered the third trimester.
